MONEYBEE

To explore future possibility of eliminating the need for customers to travel to bank branches for money transfer, we designed and built a working prototype showing how a drone can be used for the transaction. The application includes a mobile interface for both the sender and receiver, an NFC enabled cash delivery box, and flight management control tool.

1. One day at work, Kevin, thought of sending some cash to his dad who lives in Ethiopia. No need to rush to the bank branch, he open the app called “Moneybee”.

4. Just like requesting Uber or Lyft, he confirms his location and request Moneybee drone. While waiting, he can track the real-time location of the drone.

7. The bank branch will process the fund and communicate with the bank branch near his dad’s location and prepare for the delivery. Kevin could keep track of each stage of the delivery,

2. It gives him a list of people that he could choose from. He found his dad easily on the top of the suggested list, since with AI technology, the system knows he send cash to his dad frequently.

5. Few minutes later, his drone has arrived.​ He follows the instructions to look for NFC sign on the drone and unlocks the box. He puts the cash he prepared, and confirms the amount loaded.

8. Meanwhile, Kevin's dad got a notification of the transaction. He updates the address to his current location which is his work address.

3. He sees that all his dad information already saved in the system, he just needs to put the amount his dad needs, and “Moneybee” takes care of all the calculations.

6. When he wants to send to drone back, it detects that he is too close to the drone and not safe, so it reminds him to stand 3 feet away while it’s taking off.

9. In the same way, he can see the drone is coming to him. When it's arrive, he unlocks the box, gets the cash and sends the drone back.

This prototype showcases artificial intelligence, geofencing, flight management, multi-factor authentication and swarm intelligence.

Built this prototype including the 3d printed box, IoT electronics, App prototypes within two weeks.

Testing with users, we found out we need to alert the users to be certain distance away from the drone while it’s taking off, due to safety concern.

The drone cash delivery is just an example showing how we could use drone, the emerging technology to make people’s life delightful. It could also be applied to drug delivery.
